Team Up For Youth

Team-Up for Youth believes in the power of sports to help children learn and grow—socially, emotionally and physically. We pioneer innovative strategies to strengthen and expand after-school sports and physical activity programs that support the healthy development of young people living in low-income Bay Area communities.

More Good News for Team-Up Partners!

Christen Gray and Rafael Avendano, outstanding leaders and youth champions in Team-Up’s Ashland Neighborhood Sports Initiative, were honored in July as Koshland Community Fellows through the San Francisco Foundation.

The San Francisco Foundation’s Koshland program selected its 2008 Fellows from the Ashland and Cherryland neighborhoods in unincorporated Alameda County. Koshland staff looks for people who may not hold traditional leadership positions, but who are bridge-builders committed to the well-being of their neighborhood. Christen and Rafael work in Ashland as part of a collaborative led by the Boys and Girls Club that enhances after-school time for youth, bringing diverse organizations together to provide a variety of quality after-school sports opportunities for young people.

Rafael and Christen will each receive an annual award for five years while they pursue their work on behalf of Ashland youth. As Fellows, they will receive leadership development training and at the culmination of their training, they will re-grant $5,000 to a nonprofit organization of their choice.

Congratulations, Christen and Rafael!
