Let's Team-Up for Girls!
Our Team-Up for Girls initiative helps all girls get access to sports and coaches who make a difference in their lives.
Team-Up for Girls helps all girls get in the game.
Open one door and she'll open another. Girls sports participation has improved greatly since Title IX. For some. The truth is, girls from low-income communities don't have the same opportunities as their counterparts in more affluent communities.
Why?
- Programs are fewer, if any, in low-income communities
- Parents may not be aware of sports' benefits
- Streets and parks may not be safe
- Schools lack funding for after-school sports programs
That's where we step in. Team-Up for Youth's well-trained women coaches, sports curricula, and girl-specific training and consulting help more girls access opportunites to become athletes.
The transformation is remarkable.
- Self-esteem and body image improve
- Peer relationships strengthen
- Chances of accidental pregnancy decrease
- Chances of graduating improve
Women coaches set-off a domino effect. They help more girls find the confidence to play, they inspire boys to respect female athletes, and they become important community leaders, voicing the needs of women and girls.
Team-Up for Girls will recruit 750 new women coaches by the year 2011 so that more girls can find the champion within.
